Our Old House |
We bought a house... An old house. Here's the story. |
I feel like we have not quite communicated the weirdness/sense of avoidance associated with the basement. I guess as a rule basements are not “fun” places. When you think of owning a home, a finished basement is a plus but an unfinished one might not be a deal-breaker. I would definitely consider ours “unfinished” but not in the bare-bones-concrete-walls-and-pipes-exposed way. More in the once-upon-a-time-this-was-some-crazy-person’s-vision kind of way. Part bar, part saloon, part ill-conceived night club, our basement leaves a lot to be desired. One day, it will be the media room. Right now, it’s that place that you try to forget about.
Lately we’ve been having to spend more time down there, getting things ready to install our heat (finally! and to be continued) and our new washer and dryer. As with everything in this house, nothing is as easy as it seems like it should be.
To call it “cleaning” is a bit of an understatement… when you find artifacts like these, it feels more like excavating…
